When you start a bulk vending machine business, it is very easy to spend thousands of dollars buying your machines. If this upfront cost is not kept in check, your overhead will doom you to failure. Below are 3 ways to buy your vending machines cheaply and help you to have a profitable business. The last one may surprise you.
Buy Machines on eBay: I see machines that sell on Ebay for as low as $50.00 each both new and used. Not bad compared to $150.00 or more for brand new ones. Remember though, if you buy machines on eBay, you need to make sure to always try and purchase the same type of machine regardless if you buy from different sellers since it will make your life a lot easier when trying to interchange parts and supplies between your machines.
Newspaper: Place a want add in the local paper for vending machines. Say that you are looking to purchase some and would like to be contacted by any vendors looking to sell them.
Here is my favorite: Go to local stores and shops and start looking for vending machines. Find the vending operators contact information on each one. Almost all of them have the owner's contact info on the front or back. Then, go home and give them a call. Tell them you are a vending operator in the area and you are looking for other operators who may be selling their machines. You will be surprised how many people you will find who are worried sick about how they are going to get out from under their vending route. Why? Because they paid too much for them and have been working for free for 1-3 years. Or, they may have new obligations in their life and don’t have time to manage their route any more. This is your opportunity! I have personally bought whole vending routes for as little as $50.00 per machine. That’s the machine, location, change inside and the candy that is already inside. The best part is, you don’t have to do all the footwork and labor placing them and putting them together and the money already in the machine helps offset your tiny investment.

Buying a Vending Machine Franchise
A vending machine franchise can take several different forms. You may see a vending machine franchise ad that offers a vending route for sale, which includes the vending machines already placed in business locations. While you visit the locations and see that there are many machines, there are some factors that you need to take into consideration before you actually purchase the franchise. You do have to remember that the vending machines are used, so you should inspect them to make sure that the repairs will not cut into the profits from your sales. A vending machine franchise gives you the exclusive right to the vending machines on a specific route.
Before you dish out a lot of money for a vending machine franchise, you do have to take a look at the record of vending machine sales that the person selling the franchise has available. You also have to look at the products that customers can buy in the vending machines and compare look at the cost of purchasing the products to restock the machines. Another factor that you have to consider is the location of the vending machines which you acquire with your vending machine franchise. Are they placed in areas where there is a lot of traffic and are they noticeable in the locations? These two factors can affect the amount of sales that you may have from your vending machine franchise.
You also have to consider the reasons for the sale of the vending machine franchise. It may be a well-established franchise and the owner wants to retire. Another vending machine franchise or vending business opportunity could arise with a company that has a new product to sell, so you would be the first in your area with the vending machines. This offers an excellent opportunity to get started with high vending machine sales because of the newness of the product.
Try to go on a route with the owner before you commit to buying a vending machine franchise. If this is a new product being introduced to your area, you can start out with only one or two vending machines just to see how the sales will go. Then when the vending machine sales start to increase you can invest in more vending machines and increase the number of businesses that you service.
With a vending machine franchise, you do have to make time to service the machines. You just can't place them in a location and forget about them. If you do this, once the products are sold, you will not have any more sales. In addition, the business owners also want to make money for allowing you to use their premises. If there is a problem with any of the machines, you have to be able to do the repairs. Starting out small in a vending machine franchise will give you the time you need to get to learn the ropes of the business and to make sure that your franchise will succeed.

If Your Vending Machine Performance is Poor Do This
If your vending machine performance is poor in it's current location, try moving it to a different location within the establishment that it is at first. You could remove it completely but this is a lot of work and may be unnecessary. Many vendor's can move a machine within the same area, but just in different spot and it can make a huge difference. Try this first before relocating.

Make Sure You are Tracking Your Bulk Candy Vending Machine Stats
IF you want to be successful you need to track you bulk candy vending machine business.
I recommend using some type of spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel.
You should be looking at tracking your machines by numbering them and logging them into the spreadsheet.
You should then identify the address and location where they are at. You should track the dates of how often you are servicing the machines. Also identify on the spreadsheet the type of candy you have in that machine at that location and record the amounts that machine are making each time you go to service the machine.
This is all very important as it gives you an idea of which machines are profitable and which ones are not. You should then look at relocating your bottom 10% that are not doing well into new locations.
Another tip is to have a column on the spreadsheet with the owners or person in charge name. That is important that when you go back into a place to service the machine that you at least remember that key persons name and could help you maintain that account.
Also record in comments, complaints or suggestions that location has made to you and take care of it. Follow up is important.
Keep the locations serviced and clean and you will keep good locations longer, which means less relocating.
