A couple of Good Bulk Candy Vending Machine Tips

Here are a couple of good tips I found. I am always looking for great bulk candy vending machine tips out on the net to post to this blog for those of you who come here looking for free tips and information that can help you build, buy or start your bulk candy vending machine business.

Tip 1

Don't be stingy! I'm always surprised when I buy a used machine and find it set for the smallest vend possible! Do people really think they are going to increase profit by setting their machine to vend 4 peanut M&Ms? How much repeat business will that bring? none. A succesful location depends on regular customers as well as high foot traffic. I almost always run into someone when I am servicing my route who is happy to tell me "HEY, I hit this machine like three times a week!". Open that hopper all the way, it will pay off in higher volume which to me is more important than an extra profit of 2 or 3 cents per vend. Just try this, put 7 peanut M&M"S in one hand and 4 in the other. There is a BIG difference. Don't let someone walk away from one of your machines feeling cheated, They will never come back.

Tip 2

Be CLEAN! I carry a rolling suitcase with me to service my machines. It's a convenient way to carry everything I need into a location and it keeps the work area neat and organized, which makes me look professional. I keep my coin bags, tools, product, lables and most importantly, cleaning supplies. I use a citrus based cleaner on the outside of the machines because it leaves a smell that doesn't cause concern and it also deters ants from hanging around the base. I clean the machines EVERY time I service them and I make a big deal of it. I take my time and make sure lots of people see me doing it.(especially the owner or manager of the property). This gives them a good feeling about having me and my machine in their establishment. I also carry and use a box of disposable gloves when I work. Do NOT let anyone see you touch your product with your bare hands, EVER. You may have very clean hands but they don't know that. You may never touch product when you pour it into your machines, but THEY DON"T KNOW THAT! If someone gets grossed out watching you work they will not only avoid your machine, but they will talk about it to others as well. This will cost you tons of profit if not the location itself.

Before you change your settings, better know the cost per piece for your candy. At a setting of four pieces of M & M Peanuts, is over 25% of the quarter, depending on where you buy, and if sales tax needs to be included when you purchase it. Add in your time to pick up the stock, delay in time to get your return, rent for the location, or charity cost, it doesn't pay to do vending if your costs are higher than that, in the 50 plus percent range if you want to pay off the machines, pay yourself, pay for the stock, rent, local taxes if applicable, business registrations, time to do taxes or someone to do them for you, bank fee to count your change or cost of coin paper rolls, etc.
